Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is this place?
» memFrag is a public database of it's users memory fragments.
» It is a tool that allows you to access your links from any computer in the world.
» In it's most simple form, it's a search engine of other people's links.

2. What is a memory fragment?
» A memory fragment, or "frag", is a piece of information used to assist it's owner in some way. A frag can be as simple as a link to a web site or as complicated as a doctoral thesis. Frags are intended to help you retrieve information you have partially forgotten, such as:
  • What was that web site I stumbled upon last week?
  • How did that idea from last month work?
  • How do I make that great recipe?
3. So I can store more than links?
» Absolutely. While memFrag's primary focus is on globally accessible links, we've included the ability to store and quickly search any other text information you desire. Our users store items such as:
  • Cooking recipes
  • Address books & phone numbers
  • Technical instructions
  • Documentation
  • Class notes
  • Reminders & appointments
  • To-do lists
  • ...etc.
4. What's with the search engine?
» Most search engines search the contents of web sites to find links. We let you search other people's comments and entire link collections. Dig into the minds of like-minded people and access the hidden gems they've stored. Browse folders full of links relevant to your queries. Think "P2P" for links.

5. Why would I want to store my links and other information here?
  • memFrag makes your links globally accessible. No more disparate collections scattered across the various computers you use.
  • memFrag backs everything up. Consider: Never again lose your links or personal notes due to computer mishaps. We store it all here, forever.
  • memFrag assists you in the maintenance of your links, notifying you when they become invalid (this feature is currently in development).
  • memFrag users contribute to the community. By sharing your links with others, you allow like minded people to quickly find organized caches of information pertaining to their search queries.
6. What about my privacy?
» We take your privacy very seriously:
  • We do not require any personally identifiable information from you to create an account and begin storing information.
  • Your links and frags are not publicly associated with your account, so it is impossible for anyone to know who added what (this can be changed if you like; see your user preferences for more information).
  • It is possible to create private frags that nobody can see but you.
View our privacy policy for more information.

7. What is "web browser integration"?

» Web browser integration combines your web browser with the memFrag web site, allowing you to store and access links rapidly without coming to memFrag.com. Additionally, integration provides the ability to import your existing links into your memFrag account.
